Benita

A bit of a late-comer to my Gallery, Benita is now all ready for her debut.  Her amazing wild mohair fur is a rich nutmeg color and in order to allow you to see her better, I lightened her photos.  In person, she is deep and rich and gorgeous!  If you like a darker bear with less-than-typical mohair, Benita is just that and more.  She features my very first design style and is super-traditional.  Even so, she has a sweetness that is unmistakable.
Benita has a very long muzzle ending in a traditional square nose.  Handstitched with Perle cotton thread, her nose has a nice finish of wax giving it a matte shine.  Her premium glass eyes add a twinkle to her endearing expression.  Careful snipping of the fur on her muzzle allowed for pretty wisps of fur to remain, adding a special touch to her unique yet classic look.  Again, keep in mind she is a bit darker and more nutmeg than she appears in her photos.
Airbrushing outlines the shape of Hector's ears.  In keeping with his old styling, his ears are large, deeply cupped and slightly askew.   His traditional and extreme bear hump is quite evident in this photo.
A satin striped ribbon custom-dyed to give it an aged patina adds the perfect touch to Benita's pretty head.
Benita's antique turn-of-the-century lace vest is absolutely fabulous and a work of art all by itself.  I am not sure how this vest was originally used and am only guessing that it covered a gown for perhaps a Christening.  It ties at the side and is very long, but is much too small for an adult.  It's the perfect adornment for Benita and looks just wonderful against all that wild and wonderful mohair.  The detail in the lace is breathtaking and I would venture a guess that this garment is French because of the beauty and workmanship.
In order to maintain Benita's traditional appeal, I gave her some of the most special garments in my collection.  They allow her to show off her fur while adding a very antique touch to her overall look.
Benita measures 16 inches in length.  As you can see, she features very traditional styling complete with gently curved limbs and a nice big bear hump.

Benita's high-top leather shoes were quite destroyed when I discovered them.  A bit of magic gave them a nicer patina while allowing their age and history to remain evident.  She can wear both shoes but has only one on so that you can see her Merino wool paw pads complete with hand-stitched claws and airbrushed outlining.
Benita was stuffed in a way that slightly mimics an antique bear.  She's soft and squishy here and there where an old bear would be worn and has gentle belly stuffing.  She is fully and securely jointed and has been weighted with a pocket of bbs.
Because of her coloring, Benita was a little difficult to capture in photos.  However, I guarantee that she is much, much more wonderful in person and that you will be totally delighted with her when you meet her or you can send her back to the studio for a full refund!
