Hector
Designed and created for teddy lovers who are partial to the antique German bears, Hector has the look and appeal of a very old bear. Although I did not distress his fur or felt, his heritage is obvious in his shape as well as his swirly mohair. He was created from premium Shulte mohair, the same fur Steiff uses for their bears. The dusty apricot coloring has the look of a faded old antique bear and works perfectly for Hector. He was created from one of my very earliest designs over 11 years ago. I thought it would be fun to "go retro."
Hector has a very long muzzle ending in a traditional square nose made of hand-stitched Perle cotton and finished with black wax. Airbrushing was applied and then strategically removed to give him his very old look. He sees through premium paper weight glass eyes. All of his wonderful facial features and detail combine to give Hector his 100-year-old timeless appeal.
Airbrushing outlines the shape of Hector's ears. In keeping with his old styling, his ears are large, deeply cupped and slightly askew. His traditional and extreme bear hump is quite evident in this photo.
He may look old, but Hector is not a stern and serious bear at all. You can see he has a lovely kind smile! He is a bear of character and charm.
The ivory patina in Hector's antique child's shirt is the perfect compliment to his faded apricot fur. Around his neck he sports a chocolate brown vintage silk ribbon tied in a floppy bow. The antique Tyrolean pin is the perfect final touch featuring charms of a rope and flower. It looks lovely next to the lace trim on Hector's collar.
Hector deserved to own a special pair of shoes and so he has a wonderful pair I've kept for a while waiting for the right bear to come along. These antique high tops have glass buttons (a few have gone missing) and leather soles. They feature ivory tops and patent leather toes and heels. Hector can wear both shoes, but he has one off so you can see his handsome toes!
Hector is fully and securely jointed with discs, locknuts and bolts for long-lasting heirloom quality. His polyfill stuffing is soft in the middle to give him an old slumpy appearance. And he is nicely weighted with bbs. Hector is 17 inches tall.
In his next photo Hector shows off the beautiful apricot swirls in his long lovely fur. It's obvious this is top-of-the-line quality mohair fur. You can also see his hand-stitched claws.
