"MaryEllen"
Singer Longbed 301
1951
NA452058
This big sister to the Featherweight is the rare Long Bed 301, much coveted by quilters due to the larger work platform.  Her caramel color without decals was Singer's answer to modernizing their look in the 50's.  Seems so old-fashioned by today's standards!  This beautiful lady is going to make her new seamstress very happy indeed and she will perform her duties flawlessly and quietly.  She comes with a full compliment of attachments, so everything you need to begin your beautiful creations will be all there for you.

MaryEllen has a very convenient carrying handle that folds down flat for storage.
Selina's upper tensioner is in excellent condition and has been fine-tuned for a perfect stitch.  The graphics are rich and bright.

MaryEllen has a few minor scissor pokes and light pin scratches, but overall she's in wonderful condition.  You can see her Stitch Regular has nice bright graphics.
At first glance, MaryEllen may seem like the average, everyday Singer 301 - even with her rare long bed.  However, she has something that's very near and dear to my heart - a wonderful history of MaryEllen written in the shaky hand of her elderly seamstress.  MaryEllen obvious meant a lot to her first owner, Mary Ellen Forbes, who received it as a graduation present in 1956.  I only hope that her next owner will treasure this wonderful piece of history and love her as much as her first seamstress did!  God Bless You, Mary Ellen Forbes.
While her case is a bit discolored and dark, it's strong and up to the task of protecting MaryEllen when she's at her leisure.  The handle, hinges and clasps are all strong and the case itself is complete and sturdy.
The next photo will show more clearly the condition of Selina's decals and her "scissor rash" on the side of the bed.  It actually appears more noticeable in the photos than in normal lighting conditions, but I still want to point it out to be fair.
MaryEllen has the Stamped Throat Plate that makes for easy even seam allowances.   Note the minor wear to the front edge of her bed.  Of course, this is easily touched up with auto paint, but I decided to allow MaryEllen to wear the evidence of her age and history with pride.
Selina's original Singer motor has been fully tested and put through its paces.  It's strong and quiet and certainly up to the task.
Included with MaryEllen are the following:

  Original  Accessory Box
Original Owner's Manual (missing the cover, but all the information is there for you)
  Multiple Slotted Binder
  Gatherer
  Foot Hemmer
  Adjustable Hemmer
  3 Bobbins
  Original Carrying Case
Help and advice whenever you need it.
The original Singer motor is tucked nicely inside and out of the way, making MaryEllen a very quiet running sewing machine.
MaryEllen sews like a dream.  While I have not had the time to photograph her using all the attachments, I will fully guarantee that each one will perform as they were designed to.   Of course, her standard stitching has been fully tested and as you can see, you couldn't ask for a prettier stitch!

Her tensioner also has bright graphics and has been adjusted to deliver the proper upper thread tension.
The magnified light will be appreciated on cloudy, dark days!
The wonderful Art Deco design of the Slant Needle 301 is quite evident when viewing her from the side.
MaryEllen has been fully cleaned, serviced and adjusted including the tension on her Original Bobbin Case.  She is ready to unpack and start sewing immediately.
The back edge of MaryEllen's paint shows a few chips and some light scratches.  Of course, none of this will ever affect her beautiful performance, but needs to be pointed out.
Her mechanics are clean and in perfect working order.
Singer, being the top-notch company they are, even changed the color of their Bakelite Foot Pedals to match their new caramel sewing machines.
