Big Sister To The Featherweight
I'll admit I don't have nearly the experience with the Singer 301A as I do the Featherweights.  Yes, I've sewed on them but not as extensively as I've used the Featherweights.  Really I would have to say the only reason is the Featherweight is smaller and lighter and just easier for me to pop out of the case and get to work.  However, if you want or would like a heavier duty sewing machine without going commercial, the 301 is for you.  While the Featherweight weights 11 pounds, her big sister the 301 weighs 16 pounds.

The 301 is in my opinion a highly underrated sewing machine and one who's time is yet to come. If you love quilting or have bigger projects such as draperies, slip covers or other home decor projects, this sewing machine will do whatever you need it to.  The slant needle design allows for optimal strength in pushing through even layers of leather, canvas or suede without hesitation.  It also gives you more visibility right at the point of stitching so fancy quilting stitches are very easy.

All you need to do is drop the feed dog and you'll be able to sew pretty embroidery stitches.   Her internal gear drive is super quiet and even the motor is located inside the body of the machine.  I really like this sewing machine and would love to keep it for myself, but unfortunately space is becoming a premium in my studio, so she has to go.  Meridith is a special Two-Tone edition and her bright clean paint and classic lines will bring a fun retro touch to your sewing room.
The stamped throat plate makes sewing perfectly even seam allowances a breeze.  The chrome on this Singer is bright and shiny and the paint shows minimal pin scratches.  A few faded circles in the paint keep this pretty sewing machine from being showroom new.  Meridith is so lovely you can be proud to leave her out.
Note the shine in the paint.  It reflects the palm tree in my backdrop.  They sure don't make sewing machines this fine anymore!
The built-in handle makes it so easy to move this sewing machine around.  A very handy addition.
Note the famous "slant shaft" design.  What a great Art Deco look this Singer sewing machine has!
This is 2 pieces of leather I sewed with a regular needle!  A leather needle will stitch through even more layers if you need.  These Singer 301's are known for their ability to handle tough chores effortlessly and it's easy to see why they are coveted by quilters in the know.
