"Selina"
Singer Featherweight 221
December 9, 1948
While her decals are worn and her paint is faded, Selina is still a wonderful Featherweight and is going to make her next seamstress proud.  Her stitches are unfailingly even and tight and she runs smooth and fast.  If you want a Featherweight a step above a daily stitcher but one that is still beautiful enough to leave out on display. Selina is your sewing machine!

Just as the upper tensioner was adjusted, so was Selina's bobbin case.
Selina's upper tensioner is in excellent condition and has been fine-tuned for a perfect stitch.  The graphics are rich and bright.

You'll appreciate the bubble in the glass cover over the light.  It acts as a magnifier and throws the light right onto the sewing area.
Most of Selina's decal wear is the result of careless scissor handling.  If you keep a tiny pair of thread snipping scissors next to your Featherweight, you will avoid these poke marks.  Her paint is still shiny and pretty and she has been polished and cleaned the same way as all my Featherweights.  She deserves the best too!
Selina's original Owner's Manual is in great condition for its age.
The adjustable hemmer makes measuring and ironing hems before stitching obsolete.  Simply dial in the size hem you want and feed the fabric.  Viola!
The Ruffler is a wonderful attachment that works like magic.  You can make small perfectly spaced pleats or even ruffle a piece of fabric and attach it to your project all in one operation.
Like almost all of these types of cases, the outside covering showed a lot of water marks.  Since Nina is so beautiful, I decided to freshen up her case a bit and put a light wash of paint on the outside.  It made it a little cleaner looking.
No more pulling threads to make a gather.  Just pop in the Gatherer and allow Selina to do that for you.  It's as easy as straight sewing.
The next photo will show more clearly the condition of Selina's decals and her "scissor rash" on the side of the bed.  It actually appears more noticeable in the photos than in normal lighting conditions, but I still want to point it out to be fair.
Selina has the modern Striated Face Plate.  Her Singer Light works perfectly, nice and bright.
Selina's original Singer motor has been fully tested and put through its paces.  It's strong and quiet and certainly up to the task.

The Bakelite foot pedal is original and in fine working order.
She makes beautiful stitches.  All the samples pictured here were created on Selina and all will come with her.  Perhaps they will inspire you!
Selina's carrying case will continue to protect her for many years.  The latches and hinges are strong and the handle is fine.  This is actually a much nicer case than you will see on many Featherweights.  A bit of tarnish on the hinges won't affect the performance at all.

Her Multiple Slotted binder works perfectly.

The Foot Hemmer is an amazing little attachment that makes those tiny turned hems on fine linens and handkerchiefs.

Leather?  Yes.  Lycra?  Certainly!  I've sewn everything from very light weight lycra to the thickest mohair bear fur on my Featherweights with no trouble.
